NOTE TO THE EDITOR: Please include the following statement from State Rep. Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) in your coverage of the passage of House Bill 1001 and the Indiana General Assembly’s adjournment.
STATEHOUSE- “Our number one priority this session was passing an honestly balanced state budget with no tax increases. I am confident that the budget remains accountable to Hoosiers by protecting our state’s reserves while providing the largest increase to education funding in Indiana’s history by increasing the foundation for all students, particularly providing more funding for Franklin and Perry Township schools.”
“This session I also focused on bettering the general aviation industry in Indiana. I authored HEA 1413, which increases the amount of financial responsibility for the ownership and rental of a private aircraft. These changes are going to grow general aviation by clarifying insurable amounts and risks for aircraft owners.
“During this session I also authored HEA 1414 which updates the school safety drill statute. This gives schools more flexibility and local control by allowing them to substitute tornado and man-made occurrence drills for fire drills while clarifying schools may do more drills if they feel more preparation is necessary.”
