STATEHOUSE (March 24, 2009) - Rep. Mike Murphy (R-Indianapolis) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.

In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana.  As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution.  Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General R. Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.

"You just don't realize the massive scope of this war until you see the faces of those who have lost a loved one fighting in it," said Rep. Murphy.  "Today, we saw hundreds of those faces.  No matter how much we try to do, we can never fully compensate these families.  We can never do enough to honor the courageous lives of these brave men and women.  I am humbled and saddened by today's resolution - and proud to add my support to it."

Rep. Murphy represents the southern portion of Marion County.  The names of 19 soldiers from Marion County were read to the House.
