STATEHOUSE- Last night in his State of the State address, Gov. Mitch Daniels took a moment to praise a measure co-authored this session by State Rep. Mike Murphy (R-Indianapolis).
House Bill (HB) 1001, a major legislative ethics reform package, has been passed by the House of Representatives and is now waiting to be heard in a Senate committee.
During his address, Governor Daniels lauded the bill, saying, "I applaud your proposals to raise the standards to which legislators will now be held.
"It will enhance the quality of your decisions and the confidence of our citizens in those decisions. Thank you for stepping forward so boldly; I look forward to signing this important new law."
Rep. Murphy said he was pleased to have the full backing of the governor on the bill.
"HB 1001 is a huge step in the direction of restoring public trust in government," he said. "It has been one of the major achievements of this session. I was pleased and surprised that the governor mentioned it specifically last night, and I look forward to the day when we can gather in his office and watch it being signed into law."
