(STATEHOUSE) Nov. 26, 2007 -Bid letting for repairs to the Shelbyville Road bridge over Little Buck Creek in Franklin Township will occur four months sooner than originally anticipated due to efforts by state Rep. Mike Murphy (R-Indianapolis) to speed up this process. The project is on this week's letting, Nov. 28: Des #9881710, Contract #B-27199.
Letting is the process by which contractors bid on projects and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) selects a contractor or contractors to complete projects. INDOT posts details of projects prior to the opening of bids. Contractors and venders then purchase proposals. Bids are posted and contactors and venders are selected. The bid letting on the Shelbyville Road bridge marks the beginning of this process.
"This is great news for Franklin Township," Rep. Murphy responded. "Shelbyville Road and the bridge are critical transportation arteries in our area. The wait for bid letting and approval has been frustrating, and I am just glad to know that the inconvenience to my neighbors, at least, will be shortened."
Rep. Murphy worked with Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Karl Browning and other local officials to speed up the process. Pushing up the bid letting for the bridge repairs means construction will start sooner, and citizens will be able to return to their regular driving routes earlier than once feared.
"I want to extend great thanks to Karl Browning and the City of Indianapolis, especially Lincoln Plowman of the City-County Council," said Rep. Murphy. "It is amazing how much we can achieve by putting partisan differences aside. This is a great achievement for Indianapolis, particularly Southside residents."
Rep. Murphy encourages local constituents to contact him with questions or concerns through e-mail at email@example.com, or by calling the Statehouse toll-free at 1-800-382-9841. It is also possible to write him at 200 W. Washington St,
