“I am humbled to receive the MADD Legislator of the Year Award,” said Rep. Kirchhofer. “The work done by MADD is crucial to maintaining public safety. It is an honor to be recognized by the organization.”
The MADD Legislator of the Year Awards were announced nationally Thursday by the organization. Rep. Kichhofer was given the award as a result of her work to establish a statewide regulatory framework for ignition interlocks during the 2014 legislative session.
“As a legislator, I will continue to advocate for victims of drunk driving in Indiana,” said Rep. Kirchhofer. “We need to maintain focus on this issue by making future improvements to Indiana’s ignition interlock law and ultimately save lives.”
Rep. Kichhofer championed legislation requiring the Indiana State Department of Toxicology to develop standards and testing for ignition interlock devices and create an overall structure for solutions to the drunk driving issue in Indiana. The legislation also requires interlocks for repeat offenders and allows judges to order the devices for first-time offenders.
Rep. Kirchhofer (R-Beech Grove) represents portions of Marion County.
