[r88] Speaker Bosma Statement: House Bills 1002 and 1003 Signed Into Law (5/5/2011)

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Start Date: 5/5/2011 All Day
End Date: 5/5/2011
Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) offered the following statement in response to the signing into law of House Bill 1002 and House Bill 1003 today:

"In 2001, charter legislation was first adopted in this state and many of us know that we have done nothing but defend it since. Unfortunately, we have not seen a bill pass the House since then that fulfills our constitutional obligation that is not to institutions, not to buildings, not to systems, but to students by providing each of these young people and many more across the state, an education that is best for them and their families.

"Today is an historic day, not just in Indiana, because I believe this march will start in virtually every state-of whom are already on the march and some are sitting at home watching-so today, as the four of us get the privilege of signing this bill into law, we will look back years from now, we will look back and say today is the day Indiana got it right. Not for institutions, not for buildings, but for these children and for those who follow."
