Speaker Bosma was honored with the Legislator of the Year award from the Indiana Public Charter School Association. This award recognizes Speaker Bosma's long-time support of public charter schools including this session's House Bill 1002 which would expand the number of authorizers of charter schools and places public charter schools under the same accountability standards as traditional public schools.
House Bill 1002 passed the Indiana House of Representatives by a vote of 59-37. House Bill 1002 is now under consideration by the Senate.
In addition, Speaker Bosma also received the Golden Apple award from Indiana Virtual Families. Back in 2009, Bosma worked tirelessly to gain passage of funding for the virtual school pilot program in the state budget.
"I am honored to be recognized by both of these outstanding organizations that represent real Hoosier families who desire to have options for their children's education. Parents, regardless of income or zip code, deserve to decide what type of school best serves their child's needs," said Speaker Bosma.
