STATEHOUSE – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) presented Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) with the Small Business Guardian Award.

The Small Business Guardian Award is NFIB’s highest honor for elected officials who consistently support the small business agenda.

The NFIB is the leading small business association representing small and independent businesses. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, the NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals. The NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of its members to own, operate and grow their businesses.

There to present the award was Barbara Quandt, Indiana State Director of the NFIB.
“Speaker Bosma has shown tremendous leadership on small business issues. He has consistently been there for the entrepreneurs of Indiana.  Brian Bosma has a 100 percent voting record on legislation impacting small business.

“And not only has he voted with us, the Speaker has had the courage to lead on the issues that matter.  The Right to Work legislation simply would not have happened without his leadership.  Brian Bosma truly is our ‘Guardian of Small Business’,” said Quandt.

Under Speaker Bosma’s leadership, the House Republicans have been able to address a number of pro-economy pieces of legislation which have led to Indiana being recognized as having the best toolbox in the Midwest and arguably the nation when it comes to creating a climate for job growth.

Indiana has been recognized over recent years as one of the best states to do business:

  • Indiana ranks 1st in the Midwest and 5th in the nation as the best place to do business in the Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States for 2012 study (Aug. 2012).
  • Indiana ranks 1st in the Midwest and 5th in the nation in Chief Executive magazine’s annual “Best & Worst States” survey (May 2012).
  • Indiana ranks 6th in the nation for its business climate according to Site Selection magazine (Nov. 2011).
  • Indiana ranks best in the Midwest and 5th overall in Area Development magazine’s “Top States for Doing Business” study (Sept. 2011).

“Having grown up in a Hoosier small business family, and operating my own small business today, I understand firsthand the opportunities and challenges presented to Hoosier entrepreneurs.  I value the constructive working relationship that I have with the NFIB, and I hold their recognition in high regard.

“It is truly an honor,” said Speaker Bosma.
