Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) today appointed Karega Rausch to serve as his appointment to the Indiana Charter School Board (ICSB), which was created during the 2011 legislative session. The Charter School Board will serve as a statewide sponsor of charter schools.
Rausch has a wealth of experience in the charter school community. He served as the Director of the Office of Education Innovation and Charter Schools Director for Mayor Greg Ballard (R-Indianapolis) and former Democrat Mayor Bart Peterson, respectively, where his primary role was to monitor the academic progress of the City of Indianapolis' sponsored charter schools.
Rausch currently serves as the Indianapolis Director at Stand for Children. Stand for Children is an education advocacy organization whose mission is to use the power of parents, teachers and other community members to ensure all children get the excellent education and strong support they need to thrive.
"Karega is a well-respected leader in the charter school arena and is committed to establishing and maintaining high quality public school options for Hoosier students," stated Speaker Bosma. "I had the opportunity to work with him this past session on charter school legislation and I was impressed with his expertise, integrity and the outstanding working relationships that he has in the charter community."
"I am honored by the Speaker's appointment and to serve students and families in our state," said Rausch. "I will do my part to ensure that our kids only have access to high-quality schools that meet their unique needs and interests."
"As a current NACSA board member and former authorizer, Karega brings a level of experience, knowledge and commitment to quality that will serve Indiana students well. I applaud Speaker Bosma's appointment as it ensures that decisions will be made with input from an experienced authorizer focused on high achievement for students." - Greg Richmond, President & CEO, National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA).
