End Date: 6/30/2010
Today the Indiana Supreme Court issued a decision on League of Women Voters v. Rokita where they upheld the voter identification law that is already in place. The decision reinforces legislation that was passed in 2005 where voters must show government issued identification at the polls when voting.

"This assures that every vote counts, but counts only once," said House Republican Leader Brian Bosma. "Showing an i.d. is a simple process that people encounter on a daily basis from renting a movie at blockbuster, to boarding an airplane. Showing identification protects the integrity of every vote."

The lawsuit was generated in June of 2008 by the League of Women Voters. The trial court rejected the plaintiff's constitutional claims. The League of Women Voters appealed the decision and the Indiana Court of Appeals reversed the trial court's decision. The Indiana Supreme Court then heard the case.
