Rep. Ober’s bill fighting veteran discrimination signed into law
STATEHOUSE – House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1242, co-authored by State Representative Dave Ober (R-Albion), was signed into law by Governor Pence at the 122nd Fighter Base in Fort Wayne.
HEA 1242 makes it illegal for an employer to discriminate against a prospective employee because they are a veteran of the Armed Forces or member of the Indiana National Guard or a reserve component.
“I was honored to be a part of this legislation to fight veteran discrimination,” said Rep. Ober. “After the sacrifices Hoosier veterans have made for our state and country, they deserve to have the opportunity to utilize their skills and work in high-quality positions without being discriminated against.”
The Indiana Civil Rights Commission will be responsible for any allegations that are made while the Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs’ will be in control of educating veterans about the law.
Rep. Ober represents all of Noble County and portion of Allen, Elkhart, LaGrange and Whitley counties.
