Legislation filed by State Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) would name part of State Road 50 in honor of former Gov. Edgar Whitcomb. House Concurrent Resolution 13 urges the Indiana Department of Transportation to name State Road 50 between Brownstown and North Vernon in honor of the former Governor.
"Gov. Whitcomb served our state and nation with great distinction," said Rep. Koch. "Naming Highway 50 in his honor would both recognize his service and identify the area from where his values came."
Whitcomb was born in Hayden and, after his distinguished service in World War II, practiced law in North Vernon and Seymour. In 1966, Whitcomb was elected Indiana secretary of state and in 1968 was elected governor.
Rep. Koch serves House District 65, which includes parts of Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson and Lawrence counties.
