(Statehouse) March 8, 2007 ¿ State Representative Woody Burton (R-Greenwood) has announced that the "In God We Trust" license plate, now being offered as an alternative to the current Indiana license plate, is a very popular choice among Hoosier motorists. Legislation, authored by Burton and passed by the General Assembly, allows the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) to stock and distribute the specialty license plates at no extra cost.
As of March 7, nearly 207,400 "In God We Trust" license plates had been chosen by Hoosiers at the time of their plate registrations and/or renewals. According to the BMV, this number amounts to approximately 28 percent of all the license plates sold this year.
"I am thrilled that the 'In God We Trust' plates are going like hotcakes," said Burton. "I am not surprised that they are so popular. When we were coming up with the design, we enlisted the help of Hoosiers by putting the designs on a website and letting people choose the one they liked the best. We had more than 300,000 responses on the website. The high response made me feel confident in our choice of design."
The "In God We Trust" license plates are available at your local BMV upon request.
