(STATEHOUSE) Feb. 3, 2009 - The Indiana House of Representatives unanimously passed an amendment to House Bill 1285 that gives more flexibility to how gaming revenue may be spent in Shelby County.
The amendment, offered by Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville) allows the creation of a separate account for the gaming revenue. Currently, that revenue goes into the general fund.
"This is an important amendment because it will allow the county much greater control over the options it has when dealing with gaming revenue," said Rep. Eberhart. "Sending funds to non-profit organizations or educational endowments will now be possibilities. This is exactly the creative programming and flexibility that the locals need."
Rep. Eberhart sits on the Environmental Affairs, Local Government and Natural Resources committees. For questions or comments regarding this session, he can be reached at h57@IN.gov, or by phone at 1-800-382-9841.
