Reps. Frye, Ziemke honor Greensburg State Championship Team
STATEHOUSE—State Representatives Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) and Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) honored the Greensburg High School men’s basketball team today with a resolution in honor of their victory in the Class 3A State Championship.
Trailing by 10 points at halftime, the Greensburg Pirates overcame a double-digit second half deficit to ultimately defeat the Concordia Cadets 73-70 in overtime. The win marks the school’s first state championship in team competition.
“The second half of that game was absolutely incredible,” said Rep. Frye. “Despite being down big at halftime, the team was never out. They never gave up, and they played until the final whistle. These young men showed resilience and maturity, far beyond their years.”
Greensburg finished the season with a 26-1 record, better than any team in all four classes. They enjoyed a tremendous fan presence at both home and away games.
“As varsity basketball players in Greensburg, these young men commit to a lifestyle of effort, sacrifice and determination,” said Rep. Ziemke. “They prioritize faith, family, school and basketball, in that order. They are class acts in a class program.”
The resolution passed with a unanimous voice vote.
Rep. Frye (R-Greensburg) represents Ohio and Switzerland counties, as well as portions of Ripley, Decatur, Jennings, Jefferson and Dearborn counties.
