“It is an honor to represent District 55 at the Statehouse,” said Rep. Ziemke. “I will continue to prioritize education by focusing dollars on the classroom and fixing the funding formula. It is important that we are held accountable to our students, teachers and parents by ensuring all schools receive adequate funding while creating a more equitable funding formula for the state.” In addition to being sworn in, Rep. Ziemke was joined by fellow legislators, staff and other state office holders in donating gift cards, linens and other items to the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV), the philanthropy selected by House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis). Founded in 1980, the ICADV is a statewide coalition that provides technical assistance, resources, information and training to those who serve victims of domestic violence. Their goal is to eliminate domestic violence through the implementation of prevention programs and public awareness. “An estimated 1.3 million women and victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year,” said Rep. Ziemke. “Domestic violence is a serious issue affecting many Hoosiers. I look forward to working with legislators on both sides of the aisle to provide more resources to these victims.” Legislators, staff and state office holders, brought in gift cards, bedding, linens, kid’s art supplies and other items to donate to ICADV. Representatives from the organization were present to accept the donations at the Statehouse. For more information on ICADV, visit www.icadvinc.org. -30-
