STATEHOUSE (April 2, 2009) - A WorkOne Information Fair is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 4, in the John Miller Community Center in Connersville, Rep. Tom Saunders (R-Lewisville) said Thursday.
The fair is presented by the Eastern Indiana Regional Workforce Board and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The goal of the event is to help area Hoosiers who are unemployed and/or interested in exploring their options for employment, advancement, benefits or higher education.
"This is a great opportunity for folks in our area to get advice and information in a friendly, face-to-face meeting with experts who can connect them with new opportunities and services," Rep. Saunders said. "Times are tough for families all over the state, so I encourage anyone looking to improve their circumstances to attend and learn about all of the options available."
Here are some of the topics of the event:
· Unemployment insurance: What is it? Am I eligible? How do I apply?
· TAA: What is it, and am I eligible? How do I apply?
· Going back to school: Is it for me and can I afford it?
· What occupations are in demand in this region?
o Health care.
o Advanced manufacturing and warehouse distribution.
o Advanced agribusiness and alternative energy.
· MindLeaders and other e-learning opportunities.
· ABE/GED opportunities.
· Starting your own business.
