STATEHOUSE—Rep. Bob Cherry (R-Greenfield) joined Sen. Beverly Gard (R-Greenfield) in honoring the Indiana Gators softball team today for their 2011 United States Fastpitch Association (USFA) Fall World Series victory.
“I am very proud to honor these hard-working young ladies from our community,” said Rep. Cherry. “This was a well-deserved victory over top-ranked softball organizations throughout the country. They are a force to be reckoned with, and I look forward to watching their success in the years to come.”
The Indiana Gators, based out of New Palestine, won the USFA Fall World Series Championship game in Birmingham, Ala. last fall following their 2011 USFA State Championship win. They suffered one loss, but went on to win six consecutive games including the championship by 4-2.
They were the only team from Indiana to compete in this national competition. Winning the USFA World Series marks that first time that a team – of any age – won the championship from the Hoosier state.
The 12 members of the Indiana Gators were greeted with a standing ovation by all legislators during today’s legislative session.
