(STATEHOUSE) April 14, 2009 - The Indiana Senate today passed House Bill 1123, authored by Rep. Bob Cherry (R-Greenfield) to ensure speed limit signs are properly displayed in school zones. The bill passed with a vote of 48-2.

House Bill 1123 requires a sign to be displayed where the school zone begins, indicating the reduced speed limit for the school zone and another sign at the end of the school zone, indicating the end of the school zone.

"Motorists need to be properly warned when they are in a school zone, when the school zone ends and the designated speed limit that is in effect," said Rep. Cherry. "Most of Indiana schools already have properly displayed school zone signs. We just needed legislation to make that statewide."
