SB 331 establishes the Second Service for Veterans program, which encourages veterans to pursue a career in education in Indiana.
“As a dual veteran, I know the challenges that are faced when people leave the service and return to civilian life,” said Rep. Zent. “It is our obligation as a society to give America’s heroes the educational and career opportunities they deserve.”
State colleges and universities would be required to award educational credits to veterans or active military members who have completed courses at accredited institutions or have completed college equivalency exams.
“This bill was designed to encourage our servicemen and women to enter the teaching profession and hopefully remain in Indiana,” said Rep. Zent. “Those who have served our country now have a great opportunity to continue serving by teaching Indiana youth.”
Due to amendments, SB 331 will now be returned to the Senate for further consideration. State Senator Sue Glick (R-LaGrange) is the original author.
Rep. Zent (R-Angola) represents most of LaGrange and Steuben Counties.
