STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Dick Dodge (R-Pleasant Lake) co-authored House Bill 1040 this session to extend the final report due date of the Lake Management Work Group. Originally, the Lake Management Work Group (LMWG) is scheduled to expire July 1, 2010. HB 1040 would extend this date one year to July 1, 2011.
HB 1040 passed on the bill's last vote this session in the legislature and is ready to be signed by Gov. Daniels.
The LMWG consists of 26 members: 4 state employees, 4 legislators, and 18 non-state employees. This group is responsible for lake policy studies, hearing public input, as well as overseeing and coordinating local, state and federal funds for specific lake programs.
"I am glad I was able to extend the group's deadline," said Rep. Dodge. "The Lake Management Work Group understands the problems and threats our lakes face. Even better, they have great ideas of how to fix them. There is a lot of work to be done and I want to ensure we have enough time to improve our natural waters."
