End Date: 8/4/2011
STATEHOUSE-State Representative Dick Dodge (R-Pleasant Lake) confirms that grants have been awarded to Steuben County lakes by the Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) program.

"Several Steuben County lakes will benefit tremendously from these grant distributions," said Rep. Dodge. "Many people in our community pay into the LARE fund when they register their boats. Now boaters in our area can see their money being put to good use."

The LARE program is a part of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Fish and Wildlife. The new LARE grants involve monies for biological and engineering projects, including design, diagnostic and engineering feasibility studies and construction.

The projects involve 15 counties and were submitted by local sponsors who are committed to sharing a portion of the total cost. DNR's portion comes from the Lake Enhancement fee paid annually by boat owners to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

"Lakes are a critical component of our district" said Rep. Dodge. "These grants will have a positive impact by improving a number of lakes in our area that have needed attention. "
