STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Wes Culver (R-Goshen) began his legislative career today as a new member of the 116th General Assembly during Organization Day ceremonies. Rep. Culver, one of eight new Republican members of the House, represents District 49.
"With the election cycle behind us, and I am eager to begin work for the great people of District 49," Rep. Culver said. "The first order of business will be to provide Hoosiers a balanced budget while finding ways to strengthen our state's economy."
Indiana Supreme Court Justice Frank Sullivan Jr. presided over the swearing-in of the 100 members of the House.
Organization Day is traditionally a ceremonial affair, with the swearing-in being the important event. The General Assembly convenes Jan. 7.
"There are plenty of challenges ahead for Hoosiers and the General Assembly," Rep. Culver said. "It's clear to me that families in this state need relief. We will continue to make property tax relief permanent. We should provide higher education opportunities for more students, while providing incentives for employers to bring good jobs to Indiana."
