Monday, April 26, 2010

Start Date: 4/26/2010 All Day
End Date: 4/26/2010
State Rep. Wes Culver (R-Goshen) wants local residents to know that more than 1,000 former RV workers in the area will soon see a little relief in the form of a $3.5 million dollar National Emergency Grant (NEG).

According to the Department of Labor, NEGs are awards that "temporarily expand service capacity at the State and local levels through time-limited funding assistance in response to significant dislocation events."

Services provided will include the following, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development:

  • Individual Training Accounts - up to $6,000 to assist workers with their training needs;
  • On-the-Job Training - at a dislocated worker's new employer;
  • Supportive Services - provide additional assistance to workers while they're in training; and
  • Job Search and Placement Services.

Workers are considered eligible for these services if they were dislocated from one of the following companies:

  • Dutchmen Manufacturing;
  • Entegra Coach;
  • Fleetwood Motor Homes;
  • Fleetwood Travel Trailers;
  • Flexsteel;
  • Jayco;
  • Keystone RV Company;
  • Monaco Coach;
  • Newmar Corporation;
  • Pilgrim International;
  • Starcraft RV;
  • Sundowner Trailers

"Local residents affected by the layoffs we've seen all too often in recent months will not want to miss the opportunity to receive these services," said Rep. Culver. "The goal is to get qualified Hoosiers back into good jobs, and provide some financial assistance in the meantime."

Individuals who would like to begin taking advantage of these services should contact the Elkhart WorkOne Center at (574) 295-0105 between 8:00am and 4:30pm on business days.  Questions may also be directed to Kathleen Randolph, the Regional Operator, at 260-459-1400, ext 4502.

Constituents may reach Rep. Culver's Statehouse office directly at 317-234-3825 or toll-free at 1-800-382-9841.
