Rep. Foley congratulates Centerton Elementary School for high ISTEP+ scores

STATEHOUSE - The Indiana Department of Education (DOE) released ISTEP+ data yesterday for third through eighth grades, and Centerton Elementary School in State Rep. Ralph Foley's (R-Martinsville) House District had 93.1 percent of the student body pass the spring 2011 ISTEP+ exam.

"I commend the progress that Centerton Elementary School has made over the years to better position our students for higher education," said Rep. Foley. "Their accomplishment is attributed to the countless hours of hard work that the students, families, faculty, staff and administration have put forth."

The spring 2011 ISTEP+ test is administered based on Indiana's Academic Standards and includes the following academic subject areas per grade level:

  • English/language arts in grades 3-8
  • Mathematics in grades 3-8
  • Science in grades 4 and 6
  • Social studies in grades 5 and 7

According to a release from the DOE, 70.2 percent of students passed both the English/Language Arts and Mathematics portions of the exam. In individual subjects, the assessment resulted in statewide pass rates of 78 percent in English/Language Arts, 79 percent in Mathematics, 69 percent in Science and 67 percent in Social Studies. In total, 963 Indiana schools saw improvement on their test scores.

"The data released today further shows that we have great teachers and great schools in Martinsville," said Rep. Foley. "In the years to come, I am very confident that we will see many more schools from our district on this list."
