STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) is pleased to announce that multiple grants have been awarded to Putnam, Parke, and Clay counties.  The awarded grants are part of the 16th round of Community Focus Fund (CFF) grants announced by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman. Funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant program, 38 Hoosier communities will receive CFF grants, totaling over $16M in community investment.
The Putnam County Walnut Creek Fire Protection District will receive $150,000 to purchase a fire engine for Clinton Township Fire Department. Equipped with added rescue capabilities, the pumper truck is a substantial upgrade from the previously used 1986 model.
Marshall Township, in Parke County, received a $95,400 grant to purchase a state-of-the-art fire engine.

Another grant of $400,000 was awarded to the city of Brazil, in Clay County, to help purchase a community center.

“I am very pleased to hear that Putnam, Clay and Parke counties were awarded these grants,” said Rep. Baird. “The improvements to public safety and the new community center are great for the communities.”

The grants aim to assist smaller cities and towns in Indiana with long-term development initiatives. The types of projects that will be funded by these grant dollars include: sewer upgrades, new fire trucks, libraries and community centers.  The grants are administered by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) and provide technical assistance to community leaders during the 18-month implementation of their CFF projects.

“The CFF program provides an opportunity for our rural areas to achieve goals they otherwise may not be able to,” said Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman. “The fruition of the various projects will give each community a boost in a variety of ways from economic development to safety to infrastructure.”

Lt. Governor Skillman will host an awards ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. to honor the grant recipients.
