(STATEHOUSE) Nov. 20, 2007 - State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Hendricks County) and the legislators of the 115th Indiana General Assembly used Organization Day as the start of their efforts to ease Hoosier taxpayers' property tax burden with permanent and comprehensive reform.

Organization Day is usually a largely ceremonial affair, with members being sworn in and little business taking place, but today's session had more substance than usual, with the introduction of legislation dealing with the property tax crisis.

"I am prepared for the magnitude of responsibility that faces the General Assembly," said Rep. Steuerwald. "My main priority this session is creating a workable solution to our property tax system so that Hoosiers will not be faced with outrageous property tax bills again."

The upcoming 2008 legislative session will begin January 8, 2008. Rep. Steuerwald encourages local constituents to contact him with questions or concerns through email at h40@in.gov, or by calling the Statehouse toll-free at 1-800-382-9841.  It is also possible to write him at 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.
