"HB 1362 requires no mandate, but instead is left up to local elected officials and local taxpayers as a means to best accommodate their own governmental structure. It is with great hope that local governments will utilize this source as long as it benefits local taxpayers. I have always believed that government needed to give more authority to our local governments and the best process to achieve local modernization is to return local autonomy and economic potential to those closest to the people. "Contrary to what legislative leaders have said, I agree with the Governor that an immediate tax credit rather than an abatement credit take place so as to avoid the possibility of local officials having to issue a 1099 form that would require additional federal and state income tax being paid. "If there should be a special session, my hope is that the Governor will address not only the property tax credit, but also the removal of the welfare property tax role and the reduction of state spending by 1%. The combination of the above would result in almost a doubling property tax relief for property taxes due and payable this fall." Rep.
