(STATEHOUSE) July 20, 2007 - State Representative Jim Buck (R-Kokomo) has been assigned to three statutory study commissions and committees aimed at preparing the General Assembly for important issues that will likely be discussed during the next legislative session. House Leaders appointed Rep. Buck to these committees and commissions.

Representative Buck will continue to serve on the Advisory Council to the Bureau of Lands and Cultural Resources and Water and Resource Regulation. In addition, he will also serve on the Joint Study Committee on Mass Transit and Transportation Alternatives and the Interim Study Committee on Transportation Matters.

"Indiana is facing pivotal times," said Rep. Buck. "I am eager to begin working on these committees to prepare for the next legislative session. I am confident that through bi-partisan support we can, and will, provide Indiana with the best solutions to the issues facing our state."

The Indiana General Assembly is a part-time legislature and meets on a two-year cycle, four months one year and three months the following year. Important statewide issues can be dealt with efficiently year-round through the use of the Interim Study Committees and Statutory Commissions. These two types of study groups convene regularly through the remainder of the year and discuss key issues, which could lead to possible legislation in the upcoming session.

As a member of the Interim Study Committee on Transportation Matters, Rep. Buck will be studying issues pertaining to vehicle crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, as well as the feasibility and statewide benefit of an inland port in Indiana.

These meetings are open to the public and Rep. Buck cordially invites anyone who is interested to attend. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to be addressed in any of the interim study committee meetings please contact Rep. Buck at h38@in.gov.
