(STATEHOUSE) November 1, 2007 - State Representative P. Eric Turner's (R-Marion) statement on the 7th Circuit Court decision to dismiss the ACLU lawsuit, regarding sectarian prayer in the Indiana House of Representatives.

"I am very pleased by the recent 7th Circuit Court of Appeals decision regarding prayer in the House of Representatives of the Indiana General Assembly," said Rep. Turner. "No longer will the Indiana General Assembly be suppressed of religious expression. Our country was founded by religious leaders seeking freedom to practice their own faiths and the U.S. Constitution calls for the respect of all religious faiths as well as the First Amendment, the right of free speech. I am thankful that we will be able to honor this tradition by returning to the nearly 200-year-old ritual of having prayer prior to session."
