(STATEHOUSE) October 24, 2007 - State Representative P. Eric Turner's (R-Marion) statement on the Governor's recent proposal for property tax relief for Hoosier homeowners.

"The Governor's plan has a solid foundation for the legislature to build off," said Rep. Turner. "The plan sets forth an excellent framework that includes substantial property tax cuts and lasting property tax relief for every Hoosier homeowner. In addition, the plan caps state and local government spending, it fixes our broken assessment system, and it gives Hoosiers the power to impact their property taxes through referenda.

"I applaud the Governor's leadership and boldness to reduce our dependency on property taxes. There will be many details that we will have to work out during the upcoming legislation session, but this plan provides us with an excellent starting point for permanent property tax reform."
