STATEHOUSE— “Although we encountered some bumps during the beginning of this session, both sides came together in the end to pass legislation to strengthen our great state. As always, our focus was benefiting Hoosiers and ensuring Indiana continues on the right track. It was a short, non-budget session, but we accomplished things that Hoosiers will be pleased with.
“Specifically, we passed legislation enhancing the Automatic Tax Refund, to ensure Hoosiers a break on their next year’s tax returns. I also carried legislation ensuring that all Hoosiers receive a fair shot at state and local government jobs, eliminating nepotism within state and local government workforces. In this economy, every bit helps.
“I also supported monumental legislation gradually phasing out the Inheritance Tax. Indiana is one of the last states in the country to still impose this tax, and I don’t think it is right to penalize individuals who worked hard to build their business and savings in our state when they try to pass that wealth in their wills.
“I am proud of all that we accomplished throughout this legislative session, and I look forward to continue to meet and work with constituents throughout the months to come.”
