STATEHOUSE – State Representative Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) has been appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Human Services and Welfare Committee. The NCSL Standing Committees are composed of legislators and legislative staff who are appointed by leadership in each legislature. There are 10 committees that deal with both state and state-federal issues.
The Human Services and Welfare Committee studies NCSL's state and federal work in four major categories: social services, income security, food and nutrition and immigration. This includes areas such as child care, welfare reform, child support, commodity distribution and benefits to legal aliens. The Human Services and Welfare Committee also works with states on engaging faith-based organizations and proposals supporting healthy marriages.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Human Services and Welfare Committee,” said Rep. Mahan. “I look forward to working with legislators from across the country to influence policy initiatives I am very passionate about.”
The NCSL Standing Committees meet three times each year and allow legislators and staff to benefit from the experiences of other states in shaping public policy, analyzing new laws and managing the legislative institutions.
