STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.

State Representative Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) has been appointed Chairman of the Government and Regulatory Reform Committee. He will also serve on the Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee and Insurance Committee.

“I am honored to be appointed to serve on these committees,” said Rep. Mahan. “As Chairman of the Government and Regulatory Reform Committee, I will continue my work to reduce bureaucratic red tape, making it easier to do business in Indiana.”

Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

“I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution,” said Speaker Bosma. “I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process.”

The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m.
