End Date: 1/27/2012

STATEHOUSE—Rep. Rich McClain (R-Logansport) supported legislation today that would enhance the Military Family Relief Fund. House Bill (HB) 1059 passed out of the Indiana House of Representatives with a 93-0 vote.

HB 1059 would extend the time allotment that an active duty service member and their families may receive assistance from the fund from one to three years. The Military Family Relief Fund is primarily funded through the sale of “Support our Troops” license plates issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

“The Military Family Relief Fund helps support our troops in a time when providing for a family is not always easy,” said Rep. McClain. “This bill would give them an extension of funds during difficult times of active duty deployment.

“Supporting our Hoosier military personnel is a priority, which was reflected by its passage in the House today.”

HB 1059 will move to the Senate for further discussion and debate. If signed into law, it will go into effect July 1, 2012.
