STATEHOUSE (Sept. 20, 2017) – Local communities will receive state matching grants to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Sharon Negele (R-Attica).
More than $150 million was awarded to Indiana cities, towns and counties through the Community Crossings grant program, which is now in its second year. The grants are available through the Indiana Department of Transportation as a result of legislation supported by Negele in 2016.
“The Community Crossings program provides local governments with the additional funds they need to complete road and bridge projects in their communities,” Negele said. “This significant infrastructure investment will continue to strengthen the local economy, while also encouraging more businesses to locate and grow in our part of the state.”
Benton County will receive $22,687, Fountain County will receive $348,952, Montgomery County will receive $670,000, Jasper County will receive $459,750, Newton County will receive $591,217 and White County will receive $538,598. In addition, 23 local communities were awarded grants.
Projects eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, small structure replacements, guardrail replacements and signs.
