Morrison: New grant money paves way for local road projects

STATEHOUSE (Sept. 21, 2017) — Local communities will receive state matching grants to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Alan Morrison (R-Brazil).

More than $150 million was awarded to Indiana cities, towns and counties through the Community Crossings grant program, which is now in its second year. The grants are available through the Indiana Department of Transportation as a result of legislation supported by Morrison in 2016.

“With these grants, local communities can focus on the roads and bridges that need immediate repairs,” Morrison said. “With the Community Crossings funds, in conjunction with the long-term roads plan passed in 2017, Indiana can continue to foster economic growth and development throughout the entire state.”

As part of the program, Clay County will receive $314,499, Fountain County will receive $348,952, Parke County will receive $588,705, Vermillion County will receive $670,000 and Vigo County will receive $480,625. Within these counties, various communities were also awarded grants, including:

Projects eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, small structure replacements, guardrail replacements and signs.
