STATEHOUSE (Jan. 25, 2017) — State Rep. Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) was recognized today as Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police for his dedication to law enforcement.

“As a former county sheriff, I understand what law enforcement officers deal with every day. Now, as a legislator, I’m using my experience to ensure that the laws passed by the General Assembly treat the brave men and women who protect our communities fairly,” Mahan said. “I appreciate the hard work of our law enforcement officers, and I am happy to continue working with them on issues dealing with public safety matters.”

In 2016, Mahan authored legislation that established guidelines for law enforcement using body cameras and similar technology. He worked closely with members of law enforcement to ensure that language in the bill created an appropriate balance between privacy rights and public transparency.
