STATEHOUSE (Sept. 16, 2016) — State Rep. Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) on Friday presented Ed Breen with a Sagamore of the Wabash for serving his community as a journalist over the last 50 years.
Currently, Breen co-hosts “Good Morning, Grant County” on WBAT. According to Mahan, Breen worked as a newspaper reporter and editor over the years and still writes a column for the News Herald, which he also reads on his radio show.
“Ed is truly deserving of this honor. He has demonstrated a great commitment to the people of Grant County and city of Marion, providing local news in a variety of ways over the past five decades. As Ed continues to serve our community, I know that he will remain the principled journalist he has always been,” Mahan said.
On Saturday, Breen will be inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis — only five journalists are selected per year.
A Sagamore of the Wabash award is one of the highest honors the governor of Indiana can bestow upon a Hoosier. Recipients of this award have demonstrated distinguished service to the state.
Rep. Mahan represents Blackford County and portions of Delaware, Grant and Wells counties.
