STATEHOUSE (May 25, 2016) ― The Legislative Council today assigned topics for the General Assembly to study during the legislative interim.

The council includes eight members of the Indiana House of Representatives and eight members of the Indiana Senate. This year, House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) serves as chair and Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) serves as vice-chair.

“Summer study committees give legislators an opportunity to do a deep-dive on complex issues and recommend legislation for next session,” Bosma said. “Committees are the workhorses of the legislative process and will play a key role as we move forward on important issues like addressing our long-term road funding needs and replacing the state’s troubled ISTEP test.”

Bosma said House and Senate leaders will assign members to each study committee in the coming weeks. Committees will meet during the summer and fall months in preparation for the 2017 session of the General Assembly.
