Note to the Press: Please include the following statement from State Rep. Cindy Kirchhofer (R-Beech Grove), chair of the House Public Health Committee, in your coverage of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s legislative agenda announcement. Kirchhofer will author legislation that would ensure EMS providers who administer treatment, but do not transport patients to a hospital, are reimbursed by insurance companies. Currently, EMS providers do not receive payment for services unless a patient is taken to a hospital, causing some to take patients to a hospital unnecessarily:
STATEHOUSE (Dec. 10, 2019) – “I appreciate Governor Holcomb’s leadership on this critical issue. This legislation would ensure EMS providers who administer treatment are still reimbursed by insurance companies for those services, even if a patient is not transported to a hospital. Our hope is for Hoosiers to continue receiving appropriate emergency medical care, while compensating first responders for the services they provide. This should create a cost savings for local hospitals and free up their critical resources for those in need of emergency services.”
