(STATEHOUSE) July 20, 2007 - State Representative Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) has been assigned to four statutory study commissions and committees aimed at preparing the General Assembly for important issues that will likely be discussed during the next legislative session. House Leaders appointed Rep. Soliday to serve on the Regulatory Flexibility Committee, Joint Study Committee on Mass Transit and Transportation Alternatives, Illiana Expressway Proposal Review Committee and the Northwest Indiana Transportation Study Commission.

"Both committees will be addressing very important issues pertaining to the transportation needs, in all forms, for Northwest Indiana," said Rep. Soliday. "I am eager to bring my ideas to the table, and with bi-partisan support, I hope we can return to the Statehouse with a well crafted plan that is based on facts. We are among the first steps to advancing the transportation infrastructure for Northwest Indiana and I am honored to be a part of it."

The Indiana General Assembly is a part-time legislature and meets on a two-year cycle, four months one year and three months the following year. Important statewide issues can be dealt with efficiently year-round through the use of the Interim Study Committees and Statutory Commissions. These two types of study groups convene regularly through the remainder of the year and discuss key issues, which could lead to possible legislation in the upcoming session.

This past session, Rep. Soliday authored an amendment to Senate Enrolled Act 105 that creates a Legislative Review Committee for proposals concerning the Illiana Expressway, which includes the connection of I-57 in Illinois to I-65 in Indiana.

As a member of the Northwest Indiana Transportation Study Commission, Rep. Soliday will be responsible for studying all aspects of regional mass transportation, infrastructure, and economic development issues for the area.

These meetings are open to the public and Rep. Soliday cordially invites anyone who is interested to attend. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to be addressed in any of the interim study committee meetings please contact Rep. Soliday at More information about Interim Study Committees can be found online at
