STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2020) – State Rep. Jeff Ellington (R-Bloomington) at the Statehouse honored the Linton-Stockton High School girls' basketball team for their championship win with a resolution.
The Linton-Stockton Miners dominated the Class 2A Indiana High School Athletic Association championship game versus Frankton, winning 70-28 for their first title in February at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. They set 2A state finals records for most points in a quarter and in a half, and for margin of victory in any class.
"It's been a joy to watch the nucleus of this squad grow together and weather some tough seasons to become the best," Ellington said. "Their persistence and positive attitude paid off."
Ellington also recognized Miners coach Jared Rehmel for leading the team to a 25-5 season record. They made it to the Class 2A championship game by defeating previously unbeaten Triton Central High School in the semi-state game.
"This is an exciting moment in history, not only for the team but also for the Linton community," Ellington said. "Expectations were high going into this season to improve upon their two previous winning seasons. They met the challenge with poise and determination."
State Rep. Jeff Ellington (R-Bloomington) represents House District 62, which includes
portions of Greene, Monroe, Martin and Daviess counties.
