Note to the Press: House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) worked with U.S. Postal Service officials to resolve a recent issue involving Jim Richter, known as the “Broom Guy,” after he was barred from selling his wares on post office property. Earlier this week, Bosma sent a letter to the Indianapolis Postmaster calling for a quick resolution. In 2011, Bosma successfully intervened on behalf of Richter, who is blind, after a similar situation occurred which kept him from selling his brooms.

INDIANAPOLIS (April 8, 2016) – "Mr. Richter is once again allowed to sell his brooms on U.S. Postal Service property, and we are identifying with the Indianapolis postmaster the exact location that works at each branch he frequents. I sincerely appreciate the time, compassion and effort of post office officials, both locally and in Chicago, who worked expeditiously to make this right," Bosma said. "Jim has had a long-standing presence in Indianapolis and his personal story and positive attitude are inspiring. It's easy to understand why he had the community rallying behind him."
