Rep. Speedy paging students for 2011 session
STATEHOUSE - State Representative Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) is encouraging students ages 13-18 to sign up for the Indiana House Page Program. The program allows students to view and participate in the day-to-day activities of the General Assembly and the Statehouse.
"This program is one of the most unique educational experiences a student can have if they are interested in seeing how the Indiana legislative process works and the state is run," said Rep. Speedy. "I encourage all students who meet the requirements to apply if they'd like a behind the scenes look at government."
Hundreds of students in the page program get the chance to tour the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate, and the Indiana Supreme Court. Pages also get the chance to witness floor sessions, committee meetings and help staff members while working closely with their representative.
Students will be given an excused absence for one day of school, and are responsible for transportation to and from the Statehouse. Appointments fill up quickly, so those interested should apply as soon as possible.
If you are interested in serving as a page for the House of Representatives send your name, age, address, phone number and school to State Rep. Mike Speedy, 200 W. Washington St., Statehouse Room 401-5, Indianapolis, IN 46204, or e-mail requests to H90@in.gov.
