Commission on Developmental Disabilities meets
STATEHOUSE- Rep. Wes Culver (R-Goshen) recently chaired the second meeting of the Commission on Developmental Disabilities.
The committee heard a presentation about employment opportunities for the developmentally disabled from the Indiana University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The committee also heard an update about the First Steps program, a program which seeks to help those families with children who experience disabilities or developmental delays early in life.
"We are working to find employment opportunities for the developmentally disabled," said Rep. Culver. "It is important that we encourage ways to employ all people."
The committee also heard presentations about how to improve methods of dealing with individuals with dual diagnoses, improvements for incarcerated individuals with developmental and/or mental disabilities, and ways to improve state guardianship issues for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The next meeting of the Commission of Developmental Disabilities is scheduled for Oct. 9. The hearing will be broadcast over the internet and can viewed by visiting http://www.in.gov/legislative/2441.htm.
