INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 27, 2016) – The House of Representatives voted unanimously in support of State Rep. Douglas Gutwein’s (R-Francesville) bill providing a thirteenth pension check to retired educators and public employees.

The bill would provide an additional check to retired individuals participating in the Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement Fund and Public Employees’ Retirement Fund.

“Our teachers and public employees are an invaluable asset to our state,” Gutwein said. “This bill is one way to recognize their contributions and dedication to the state of Indiana.”

Under this bill, if the amount collected through the state’s tax amnesty program exceeds $90 million, the next $20.7 million collected would be deposited in the Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement Fund.

House Bill 1161 will now move to the Senate for consideration.

Rep. Gutwein represents all of Pulaski County and portions of Fulton, Jasper, Newton and Starke counties.
