Upon graduation from law school, he joined his present law firm and has been there since 1981.
His firm has represented various units of local government including towns, libraries and townships. Rep. During the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions, Rep. Steuerwald focused on implementing laws that will keep Hoosiers safe in our communities. He authored House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1006 which laid the foundation for a revision of Indiana's criminal code, the code has not been revised in over 30 years. The new code provides for certainty in sentencing and keeps the most violent offenders in prison longer. Victims will be fully informed of how long the offender's sentence will actually be. HEA 1006 creates a qualified committee to thoroughly study the proposed rewrite of the Indiana Criminal Code. Another piece of legislation Rep. Steuerwald worked actively to pass was HEA 1053. HEA 1053 tightens loopholes in the sex registry to make sure the offender reports any changes in address or appearance to the local authorities.
Rep. Steuerwald was born on September 12, 1952, in Terre Haute, Indiana and resides in Avon with his wife, Christy. He has three grown children: Joshua Garver, D.D.S.; Jordan Gorgievski, and Adam Steuerwald.
