House District 49
Indiana House of Representatives: 2018-Present
House District 49: Eastern portion of Elkhart County
Occupation: Mother, teacher and small-business owner
State Rep. Christy Stutzman was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2018. She is a mother, teacher and small-business owner. Stutzman has a passion for composing and directing music, serving as the Indiana state and national chorus director for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for 6 years. She was the junior/senior high music teacher and choral director at Clinton Christian School in Goshen for several years and has taught music, speech, English and dramatic production in various schools and capacities on the junior and senior high levels for many years. Stutzman currently volunteers on the board of directors for Indiana Right to Life.
As co-owner of several small businesses, including the Legacy Theatre Group, Stutzman Power Equipment, and the Schönbrook Farm & Inn, Stutzman wants to share her community’s economic success and resiliency with those at the Statehouse.
Stutzman is dedicated to making sure her district preserves its time-tested Hoosier values of personal responsibility, hard work, family, faith and community and passes those values on to the next generation. She believes in smaller government, less regulation, more freedom, the sanctity of life and more local control.
Stutzman is married to former U.S. Congressman, Marlin Stutzman, who served Indiana at both the state and national level. They have two sons, Payton and Preston, and live in Middlebury.
House District 49 consists of the eastern portion of Elkhart County in northern Indiana.
HOUSE DISTRICT 49 (Oct. 17, 2019) – State Rep. Christy Stutzman (R-Middlebury) toured Goshen and Middlebury with Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch recently to meet and hear from constituents, employers and local leaders.
“Taking the time to meet with the constituents and entrepreneurs that make our community thrive helps me keep a pulse on what issues matter most to those in our area and better represent them at the Statehouse,” Stutzman said. “There are so many incredible things going on in our communities and I appreciated the opportunity to see many of them first hand and share this experience with Lieutenant Governor Crouch.”
STATEHOUSE (Oct. 15, 2019) – More than $2.1 million in state matching grants will be awarded throughout Elkhart County to accelerate local road and bridge improvements, according to State Reps. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) and Christy Stutzman (R-Middlebury).

“While this is still a preliminary investigation with many unanswered questions, our state acted swiftly and appropriately after the recent discovery of 2,246 human remains found as a result of Dr. Klopfer’s disturbing actions. We need to understand how this was able to occur and do everything in our power to ensure that something like this can never happen again. Every human life is precious, and now that we know all these babies came from Indiana, it is my hope we can give them the proper burial and rest they deserve as soon as possible.”
“The federal courts’ decision to block a life-saving provision that we passed in the last legislative session is disappointing and very concerning. The brutal practice of dismemberment abortion on a living child in the womb is disturbing and has no place in Indiana. I co-authored this law defending the dignity of an unborn life and providing more safety for mothers and it received bipartisan support. Despite this ruling, I will continue to fight for those who cannot protect themselves and I am thankful that our state attorney general has challenged this ruling.”
