Huston: House Republicans to gavel in for session on Dec. 1

Note to the Press – Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) issued the following statement today regarding the session schedule:

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 25, 2025) – "House Republicans will gavel in on Monday, Dec. 1, reconvening the 2026 regular session. All legislative business will be considered beginning next week, including redrawing the state's congressional map. Because session will start early this year, we plan to adjust the calendar and complete our legislative business by the end of February."

Note to the Press – Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) and Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) issued the following joint statement today condemning the recent swatting and threats of violence against Senators.

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 21, 2025) – "The threats, swatting attempts and other criminal activity being directed at our colleagues in the Senate are abhorrent and completely unacceptable. This is no way to express political disagreement, and it must stop. We thank our local, state and federal law enforcement for responding to and investigating these crimes, and for keeping our elected officials and their families safe. This is incredibly harmful to those being directly impacted and to our entire state. We're praying for our colleagues, their families and neighbors, and our law enforcement partners. We hope to see swift justice for anyone responsible for these crimes."

We celebrate National Adoption Month in November, and I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of adoption and recognize the Hoosier families who open their homes and hearts to children in need. Every child deserves love, stability and a place to call home, and adoption provides that foundation when it's needed the most.

Here in Indiana, we've taken meaningful steps in recent years to strengthen our adoption system and better support Hoosier families. I'm proud that my colleagues in the General Assembly and I have worked to make adoption more affordable and reduced delays that can create uncertainty for both children and parents.

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 3, 2025) – "In working with our House Republican caucus members and our counterparts in the Senate, we have determined that the General Assembly will address any time sensitive issues during the first two weeks of December (Dec. 1 through Dec. 12).   

"The meeting days in December would be part of the 2026 regular session that officially starts on Organization Day on Nov. 18. Because of this calendar alignment, starting the regular session early would be the most cost effective and efficient way to address the Governor's call for a special session.

"Our goal is to avoid any added session-related costs, and we will continue to look for ways to save taxpayer dollars as we work through and finalize the schedule.

"More details on December session days will be made available in the coming weeks with a full calendar expected on Organization Day."
